Follow-up: Pixar favorites, yours and mine. »

Happy Post-Turkey day, if celebrating that was your thing. If not, welcome to late November, or as I like to call it “The Most Annoying Time Of The Year And When Did Everyone Forget How To Drive?”. I thought I’d run the results from last week’s article about next year’s Pixar release Wall-E in which [...]

Bringing the “cute” with Wall-E – and which Pixar is your favorite? »

I saw this new Wall-E teaser one-sheet over at both /film and Empire today, and it occurs to me that Pixar has never really marketed the “cute” factor in their movies quite so heavily as they are with this release.
That’s not to say, of course, that Pixar’s creations aren’t cute – because of course [...]

You Must Choose – do movie characters ever deserve to be left at the altar? »

If you haven’t seen it, Serendipity tells the story of a pair of fate-crossed lovers played by John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale who meet cute, fall in love, and are then separated by time, space and circumstance as they both attempt to make the fates align so that they can get back together again.
Oops. Did [...]

I shouldn’t have to tell you to go visit Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule. »

As a film blogger and rakish man-about-town, I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I haven’t been a little more attentive to one of the more well-known and excellently-written movie sites, Dennis Cozzalio’s terrific Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule. Sometimes I fall into the trap of avoiding regular visitations at sites when their [...]

You Must Choose – Hollywood’s comic existential genius or a little girl with pageant envy? »

you must choose wisely

It’s not fair to say that I hate Woody Allen.

In truth, I try not to hate anything. But I will say that I haven’t really enjoyed a Woody Allen movie made in the last, oh, two decades. Crimes and Misdemeanors, maybe. Bullets Over Broadway – a few good bits. But I’ve found his most recent efforts to be snoozy, unfunny, lazy borefests. Some decent enough filmmaking, but utterly unforgettable.

Which is why, based purely on the trailers for both movies, I’d go see Little Miss Sunshine over Scoop if they were both opening today.

Watch the trailers, read the silly ranting and make your choice after the jump.

You Must Choose – Oliver Stone’s WTC trailer leads to a difficult choice. »

By now you’ve likely seen Oliver Stone’s new World Trade Center trailer, and having watched it several times, I feel plagued by a dilemma. Perhaps you are, too, and you didn’t even realize it:
If World Trade Center and Michael Bay’s Transformers were opening on the same day, which would you pay to see in the [...]

You Must Choose – why do YOU go to the movies? »

Generally, I’m a pretty happy-go-lucky guy, but when I see “news” articles like this one, the cranky little old man who lives inside me gets out of bed and starts stomping around. Essentially, there’s excitement at the ShoWest convention because a recent survey supports the 15-80 minutes of commercials to which we’re subjected prior to [...]
