The Public Enemies trailer is great enough to raise a dead blogger.

I know I haven’t been ’round these parts too much lately – life, once again, has a way of making even my beloved blogging take a back seat in another car, speeding away on a rural road in the next county over – but Public Enemies is a Michael Mann film. With Depp and Bale. And tommy guns. And a whole lot of wow.

I’m working with a woman who is in the movie. It bugs me to tell you this, but she said Mann is an absolute asshole. He was constantly yelling at his crew to the point that Depp said he was going to leave the set. Mann continued his yelling and Depp grabbed his hat and left shooting for a week.
It makes me feel bad about Mann who I love as a director, yet it makes me respect Depp more than I have in the past.
But aside from all that, this trailer does look great. I saw it the other night before Watchmen and spent the better part of it trying to identify Chicago buildings.

@Piper – I can say this because I don’t work in the film industry anymore and I’m unlikely to personally be pals with many people who are, but if Michael Mann is a complete demanding jerkweed, I don’t so much care. His filmography is filled with very, very excellent films that reward repeated watchings over decades. I get to benefit from his being obnoxious, so I think that’s probably a burden I’m willing to bear.
