Terminator Salvation is a needy wussy who is desperate for your attention.

Imagine, just imagine what it would be like if you didn’t know that Linda Hamilton might make a cameo voiceover appearance in Terminator Salvation. Just think about that magical moment of discovery, what dynamic energy it would bring to the movie if it simply opened with the haunting words of Sarah Connor to her son and you didn’t anticipate it and you didn’t expect it and you were allowed – just this one time! – to feel the pure, exhilarating thrill of cinematic discovery. Note to McG: Maybe think about keeping just a few of these ideas to yourself.

But then you would not get all the marketing opportunities inherent in needlessly bringing back an iconic character. Action figures! Video games! And how will people get excited about a movie if they don’t know every plot beat beforehand?

@Scott: Yeah, I guess you’re right. There’s nothing about the plot, characters or action scenes in TS that should get us excited. And I AM very excited to pick up my Sarah Connor Audiotape Power Voice Action Figure With Removable Shoulder Strap™ (2009, Hasbro).
