Tagged by the Alphabet Movie Meme: this time it’s personal.

See, this is what the blogging mindset does to you: just because my pal Piper tagged me with this Alphabet Meme nearly a week ago – which is roughly four months in blogging years – I feel haunted and vexed and tormented to respond, despite the fact that I’ve been unable to craft an exciting, dynamic and otherwise interesting response.
The rule of the meme is to create a list of movies from A to Z. That’s about it. No twist, no trick, no other hook into my particular insight or critical thinking, merely an exercise to prove that I remember all of the letters of our customary alphabet. So it’s taken me six days to conjure the list below only because I was trying like hell to put my own spin on it, and have more or less completely, grievously, failed.
I will say that this list is built out of my own humble DVD collection, with the exception of seven titles. Feel free to guess which seven and compete for exciting and valuable prizes*.
The Alphabet Movie Meme, In No Particular Order:
Airplane!
Back to the Future
Cool Hand Luke
Die Hard
The Empire Strikes Back
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Grand Canyon
Heat
Iron Giant
Jurassic Park
Krull
Last of the Mohicans
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
No Country For Old Men
Once
The Player
Quick Change
Rounders
Speed
Traffic
The Untouchables
Vanilla Sky
The Wizard of Oz
Xanadu
You’ve Got Mail
Zorro, The Gay Blade
This is the part where I’m supposed to task five others to complete this meme, but everybody I don’t hate in the bloguverse has seemingly already been tagged. For me to wrestle up five names of people I like – and fail doing so – seems kind of pathetic, so we’ll do it this way: if you have your own blog, consider yourself tagged.
I think Fletch at Blog Cabins started this thing, so go ahead and give him an earful if you’d like.

Let me guess: One of the ones you dont have is Krull? And is Zorro, the Gay Blade a new prequel I have not heard of?
Burbanked | Nov 11, 2008 | Reply
Scott: You are correct about Krull – although that’s the first movie I ever told my parents I was going to see when in fact I was going to an R-rated movie.
NEVER heard of Zorro The Gay Blade? For shame!

After seeing that synopsis (and realising George Hamilton was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance) my shame knows no bounds. I must immediately rectify this anomaly. To the video store!

Please, for the love of everything holy and good in the universe, tell me that XANADU is not part of your collection.

Are you serious, Ray? It’s a classic of the roller disco genre. Gene Kelly at his best. What’s not to love?
