Keira Knightley would like you to stop looking at her corset. Again.

This has really got to be the most unintentionally hilarious movie still I’ve ever seen. I’d Photoshop it somehow, but I don’t really know how to make it any more strange.
It’s just so very, very sad, like Knightley is desperate not to be cast in any more of these overblown period pieces where she’ll be forced to act sullen, miserable, drawn and otherwise completely like she appears to be in life. She beseeches us to see these movies that she’s in no longer! Sad, sad Keira. The Duchess opens in thankfully limited release on September 19.

Your ennui over this film is amusing. I can’t say I’m exactly excited, but there’s room in my cinematic diet for this kind of thing when it’s done right. I’ve got a bad feeling about this one though.

Craig: I certainly don’t mind films like this, and have seen such things many times. But I’ve NEVER gotten the Knightley allure. She just seems so dour and unhappy and joyless and pretentious. This still, and the movie’s attendant trailer, pretty much sum up to me what’s wrong with Knightley’s whole oeuvre.
