Indiana Jones and the Overly Obvious Plot Conventions

tastes like teen spiritBut Jones would realize too late that the cleric had deliberately lied to him. Tasting the primordial goo of the Mystical Orb of the Jade Serpent did not grant renewed health and heightened awareness - only madness and, ironically, rampant alcoholism instead. On this day, fortune and glory would come at a tragic cost indeed.

(thanks to Adam at DVD Panache for the inspiration!)

By the way, I’m certain that I’m dense enough to be the last would-be film observer to point this out concerning the connection of Indiana and Shia LaBeouf’s characters in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but isn’t LaBeouf’s character’s name - Mutt Williams - an excruciatingly obvious giveaway? Doesn’t it rather unambiguously follow Indiana’s “named-after-a-dog/common American last name” convention?

No matter. Today I’m going to start work on my new screenplay, a revolutionary science fiction adventure story in which I’ll call my main character “Bluke Shmywalker”.
