Indiana Jones and the Overly Obvious Plot Conventions

But Jones would realize too late that the cleric had deliberately lied to him. Tasting the primordial goo of the Mystical Orb of the Jade Serpent did not grant renewed health and heightened awareness - only madness and, ironically, rampant alcoholism instead. On this day, fortune and glory would come at a tragic cost indeed.

By the way, I’m certain that I’m dense enough to be the last would-be film observer to point this out concerning the connection of Indiana and Shia LaBeouf’s characters in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but isn’t LaBeouf’s character’s name - Mutt Williams - an excruciatingly obvious giveaway? Doesn’t it rather unambiguously follow Indiana’s “named-after-a-dog/common American last name” convention?
No matter. Today I’m going to start work on my new screenplay, a revolutionary science fiction adventure story in which I’ll call my main character “Bluke Shmywalker”.

Dedicated screenwriting 101 here: From an interview with Harrison Ford on the MTV Movies Blog in which the inevitability of another Indiana Jones movie is mentioned:
How do I get out of this? I love going to the movies with my boys, opening up their minds to the great pleasures of cinema and all that, but this is a hard one. Please help me: do I suck it up and just go, or can anyone out there provide me with a plausible, kind-hearted, permanent way out? (
