Oh, but by the testosterone-soaked macho posturing of Bruce Willis, Piper at Lazy Eye Theatre has crafted something damn near perfect today in his My Dinner With Blank Meme. In a post that veers wildly from sublime to horrifying to vulgar to ecstatic and finally winds up right in the heart of Crazy And Violent Wish Fulfillment Town, Piper speculates what a fancy dinner engagement might be like if he invited along a certain bombastic and high-octane film director. Read all the way to the end to spot a cameo appearance by another beloved film blogger whose feelings on this issue you may have read once or twice before.

7.10.2008    Yeah I know this is very old, but Tom Hagen and Sonny Corleone and I recently finished up both Empire and Jedi, so this seemed relevant again.

Having three boys and being something of a textbook case in stunted emotional development, it’s not at all rare for me to play with and even covet some of their cool toys. But this Indiana Jones Whip, recently gifted to Sonny Corleone at his fifth birthday party, is something spectacular indeed. Yes, it’s made of China-manufactured plastic and two-and-a-half-feet of polyester, but there’s a kind of sublime joy to swinging this thing and hearing a pretty realistic whaa-tshhhh! sound result. It’s damn satisfying, and it’s not something easily replicated because most people don’t have the real thing. Highly recommended. (3)
