Tomorrow Burbanked is two years old. Hey now.

To be honest, I’m having a hard time wrapping my brain around the concept of whether two years of blogging is a lot or not. From one standpoint, it seems like a lot. With just under 500 posts to the site’s credit, I’ve tried hard to keep things fresh and interesting, although I know I’m not the most prolific or regular writer out there.
See, my days and nights are split up into three segments:
- Writing for this site.
- Spending time with my understanding and spectacularly beautiful wife and our trio of future Noble Prize-winning sons.
- Doing something else but wishing I was writing for this site.
Unfortunately, #3 demands way too much of my time. Still, I feel pretty happy about the work I do here, and I hope that you enjoy visiting and reading and commenting and coming back again. I’ll continue to do it until you stop coming or I stop loving the movies, which means I’ll stop when you stop coming. Or if Michael Bay wins an Academy Award. That’s pretty much a dealbreaker.
To celebrate the beginning of my third year as a blogger, I thought that I would ask for your kind indulgence. Over the next ten days or so, I’m going to find some of my favorite articles from Burbanked’s first full year in the bloguverse – 2006 – and repost them here at the top of the main page, in the Featured Article spot. Why would I do such a silly, egocentric thing?
- Because if you’re a relatively new or recent reader, I wanted to hand-pick some articles from earlier in the backlog that perhaps you hadn’t seen before.
- I want to remind myself to write more original content more frequently.
- It makes for WAY easy posting for the next ten days.
- I am a shameless attention whore.
- With the writers’ strike stretching on indefinitely, I simply want to get myself firmly into the mindset of rerun, regurgitated content as acceptable entertainment.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the trip down memory lane and feel free to let me know if you don’t!
And I’d be a complete blog-bag if I didn’t take a moment to warmly and sincerely thank my most cherished community of bloggers, readers and commenters including Chris and Ray (and yes, Eric and KC and Chris, too) and Piper and Joe and Karina and Nathaniel and JA and Evan and Craig and Lee and Carlo and MM and Matt and Adam and Pacheco and Unk and Bob and Tim and Michael and Megan and The Jay and Damian and Tucker and Norm and, naturally, Peggy and Wells and Craig and Tina and the Stale Popcorners and Sulu and Dougie and Thumbs and Kitty and, of course, Barry Williams.
This marks the third time I’ve featured the feet of my youngest boy Michael Corleone on this site. His naked tootsies first appeared in Burbanked’s inaugural post, and of course again on the occasion of my first blog-birthday. I like to think that my growth as a blogger is following the path of his development – which is to say that I’m becoming more demanding, more risky, more devious and more damn adorable with each passing day.
Now go see more movies in the theater!

Well done, my friend. Well done. I remember when I first stumbled on to your blog. You asked me to put my feet up and make myself comfortable. I have done so and while your wife has made quite a stink about me staying around so long, I have largely ignored her and for good reason.
thanks for having me and keeping me entertained.

LOVE YA, ALAN!!
Your one article per week keeps me in stitches and salivating for more
Happy B-Day, BURBANKED!!

Big time congratulations, Mr. L. You’re only about three months older than me, yet so much more sophisticated (in layout, I mean).

happy b-day from me too! I am jealous of your son’s shoes.

Many congratulations — now that I’m about 7 months in on our site, you have my understanding and admiration.
Your posts are a great read, and you consistently get it right.
Send your wife our sympathies. We’ll be here.

Congratulations Alan, we’ll be sure and put this item in the Announcements portion of our next Order of the Friday Screen Test meeting (and yes the Secret Entrance is still inoperable, so continue to use the fire escape).
I think my favorite feature of yours was the spotlight on the best exposition scenes, I would love to see more of those.

Piper: Thank you, sir. And my wife does not at all mind you hanging out. That uncomfortable shower curtain incident was a one-time accident, I promise you.
Ray: Right back at you. And writing once a week affords me the time to read every great thing you post and every cool video you embed. And to navigate through your sitemates’ spelling.
Bob, Tucker, Norm: Thanks to you all; I absolutely value and treasure your continued readership. Please tell 89 of your closest friends. Like, today.
Adam: I have and will continue to yearn for inclusion on that agenda. *wipes tear of pride*

Cheers! Can’t wait until next year, when I can quote the Cosby skit about the little kid on the airplane who tells everyone he is “threeyearsold.” Because if you are still here, I will be for sure.
Can’t believe how prolific you actually are with a wife and three kids. My hat is off to Mrs. Burbanked. Kiss her for me.
