The trailer for The Dark Knight puts a smile on my face.

As per my usual sense of being on top of these kinds of things, I’m a full day behind in discussion of the new trailer for next summer’s top contender The Dark Knight. The truth is, I was too busy watching this trailer yesterday to write much about it.
It’s that good. In fact, it’s even a little better than that good. I’ll send you over to visit Vic at Screen Rant for the clip - he’s got a crisp and nifty Flash embed of the trailer that looks better than the YouTube version, but doesn’t choke up your browser like the official ATasteForTheTheatrical.com site potentially does with its large - and, gratefully, downloadable - format.
By the way - if you haven’t done this already - put on some headphones, hit “play” on the trailer and then don’t watch it. Just listen to the Joker’s disturbed cackle. The way that the sound drops out on certain beats - a trick which most trailers pull, but this one does particularly well. Listen to Bale’s Batman growl on “WHERE IS HE!” - and how it’s not a question. Pay attention to the way the music builds and sets the pace.
Also notice how this trailer suggests Batman’s progression in the movie; from someone who questions what he’s doing and whether he’s bringing any good to society, if the people he’s trying to serve appreciate it or are suffering because of it - “What would you have me do?” - and the point where it turns - “Now that’s more like it, Mr. Wayne.” It may be a bit obvious to suggest, but another superhero movie used this exact convention in its sequel’s trailer, to rousing and spectacular success, didn’t it?
