I’m the Cloverfield monster, bitch.

If you haven’t seen it seven times already, here’s a link to the Cloverfield Quicktime trailer page. I hadn’t gotten too swept up in this hype yet. I think that J.J. Abrams is an incredibly savvy marketer and it’s certainly exciting to feel the buzz - but this is a really great trailer. Doesn’t give much away, excellently paced, builds excitement for the movie as a whole. I particularly love the bit inside the helicopter - here’s a screengrab - simply because I always find that sound effect of the cockpit alarm horrifying just by itself.

Dedicated screenwriting 101 here: From an interview with Harrison Ford on the MTV Movies Blog in which the inevitability of another Indiana Jones movie is mentioned:
How do I get out of this? I love going to the movies with my boys, opening up their minds to the great pleasures of cinema and all that, but this is a hard one. Please help me: do I suck it up and just go, or can anyone out there provide me with a plausible, kind-hearted, permanent way out? (

And by the way, with all the hoopla surrounding this movie and J.J. Abrams movie-messianic-like grasp of our collective consciousness, I’d take this opportunity to remind everyone that Cloverfield also has a director and a writer: Matt Reeves and Drew Goddard, respectively. They actually might have something to do with how the film turns out.

Probably more so.
