Paul Verhoeven, Brosnan, Jolie linked together in a new Affair.

A number of movie sites are reporting that Paul Verhoeven may be taking over directing duties on The Topkapi Affair, the long-in-development sequel to the 1999 heist film The Thomas Crown Affair. It’s an intriguing pairing of director and material to be sure, but Niall Browne at Screen Rant makes a very good point in suggesting that the age difference between Pierce Brosnan and Angelina Jolie (rumored to be attached to Topkapi) could be a bit of a distraction, story-wise, than the more believable coupling of Brosnan and Renee Russo. That Brosnan-Russo chemistry, for my money, is what really elevated Thomas Crown above being strictly a genre picture, but least this sequel won’t deliver any pain to the colon.
