The Fred Claus one-sheet lands on Burbanked’s “stupid” list.

Chris at Movie Marketing Madness is, as usual, right – this Fred Claus one-sheet is better than the teaser poster, if only because we’re not subjected here to a massively creepy, all-seeing and perversely staring eyeball of Vince Vaughn. I think that we can all agree to be grateful for that.
And while the image on this one-sheet is certainly fun and captures the happy-go-lucky spirit of the movie, I don’t feel very jingle-belly about the poster’s tagline:
Christmas comes once every year, but this holiday season Santa’s brother is coming along for the ride.
*pause as we wait for chuckles, nervous throat-clearing or shuffling of feet from the audience*
I suppose if we expect nothing more from a movie poster tagline than to tell us the premise of the movie, this one succeeds like gangbusters. But if we’re looking for cleverness, for a hook, for some kind of provocative suggestion of the humor or character or feeling of whimsy that the movie will evoke, this lazy piece of crap really lets us down.
Oh, I just got it! “…coming along for the ride” – and he’s riding a Big Wheel!
Okay. Well. Nope, I still hate it.

Not only did the director of Crystal Skull find Michael Bay’s movie to be “awesome”, but in Michael Bay’s opinion, Spielberg might even feel that the movie is perhaps Michael Bay’s best. Awesome news for Michael Bay fans of Michael Bay movies! (

Vince Vaughn annoys me slightly. He reminds me of that horrible Matthew Perry character from “Friends.” You know the guy … the one that stands around and makes “hilarious” quips off the top of his head, despite the fact that they have obviously been polished to a fine sheen by twelve writers.
So looking at his huge head with that weird, slightly-retarded smile on his face makes me a little uneasy.

Vince Vaughn is a heroine addict and this is the equivalent of him performing cheap blow jobs in an alley for his next hit.
I always thought Vaughn was great. I think I was wrong.

Agreed, Piper.

Why does this happen to so many actors? They have a brilliant streak of movies, and then…they falter.
It’s very upsetting. I’m a big fan of Vaughn, but this makes me question everything I’ve ever believed in. However, I still wouldn’t compare him to Matthew Perry from “Friends,” Ray. That’s just rough.
