I think I should be working for the viral “Buy n Large” site created for Wall-E.

new robots = always good newsThe other day my blogging brother Ray at The Rec Show featured a pair of Pixar-created videos in support of next year’s feature Wall-E from the Can-Barely-Do-Wrong blockbuster animation studio.

I mean, good gravy. My thoughts and feelings about Ratatouille are still all warm and percolating inside my head and it looks like Pixar’s already teeing up another homerun next year and yes I know I’m mixing my metaphors. That’s just how amazed I am by their skills and talents.

Ray linked to a wonderful promo video for “Buy n Large”, the fictional company in Wall-E that manufactures the titular robot, among others. The video details Wall-E’s features and benefits, and at the end includes a URL for the Buy n Large Web site – and that site is every bit as robust and functional as a regular corporate site! There are multiple sections, a good amount of content, articles with “more” links that work, sidebar ads that function – it’s really quite a deep, complex site as far as movie marketing tools go, especially when the movie’s release is almost a year away! The site looks so good I’m thinking about submitting my resume to their fictional HR manager.

not coming soon to a theater not near youAnd the site’s really well written as well. Poke around and you’ll find a fair amount of corporate satire and commentary on the human condition, which I’m guessing all relates to the eroded state of mankind that writer/director Andrew Stanton recently referred to in an appearance at Comic-Con. I can’t find the page right now, but I even came across a Flash ad for the fake movie Annual Report 2. Click on the one-sheet at the left to see a close-up of the credited screenwriter.

Overall, the Buy n Large site is pretty amazing; a wonderful piece of marketing and an immersive peek into some of the narrative themes that we’ll see next year in Wall-E. Once again, it’s a tribute to the creative folks at Pixar that they’ve built this entire site as an extension of their story and characters. It goes to show how dedicated the studio is to taking advantage of multiple forms of storytelling in order to give their audiences a more complete and robust entertainment experience.
