“…The battle between Spider-Man and The Baby Maker was over - and although Spider-Man had prevailed, he would learn soon enough that this victory had come at a cost. A dear cost indeed.
Spidey held the fallen villain, looking down into her throat where he saw the key to restoring the spider-powers that their fight had robbed from him. In fact the battle was not over; there was one final sacrifice before victory could be complete, and - as horrible a solution though it was - there could be no turning back.
She tried to smile, to make the best of it. But their eyes met and she saw the coldness there, the resolve in his heart. And she realized the miserable truth as well.
Spider-Man was going to have to eat her. And then he would eat their baby…”
(Why? Because I find the idea of publicist-sanctioned pictures of new celebrity parents like these to be awkwardly staged and uncomfortably dopey, and twice as bizarre as anything I could make up here.
