Today Burbanked is one year old. Woo hoo.

Don’t worry – I won’t spend a lot of time ruminating on What It All Means To Be a Blogger or anything to mark the occasion. I’m certain that it’s a much bigger deal to me than it is to you, and ultimately it’s not that big a deal to me, either.
And really, the irony that I’ve been doing this for a year now and today can’t find something about the movie industry (or, in other words, something “interesting”) to write about is not lost on me.
Here are some quickie factoids:
- Burbanked began with this post. Within nine days I posted my first Logline Freebie, which is still among my favorite running features.
- I’ve solicited your comments in four survey-type posts (that’s the You Must Choose category on the right). I’ve gotten two responses back. YEAH!
- I’ve blogged 255 posts, roughly one per day. Have you ever clicked on the images under From the Archives heading on the right? It’s a nifty way to find posts you maybe hadn’t read before. Sometimes I click through them for an hour and a half because I amuse myself so much.
- Do you ever hover over my images and read the alt tags? There’s usually something amusing there.
And, all whimsy aside, I would really like to thank my fellow bloggers and commenters who have welcomed me into their online communities and who have linked, commented, e-mailed or otherwise helped me along:
- Chris at Movie Marketing Madness
- Mack at The Viral Garden
- The gang at Film Rotation
- Totally Unauthorized
- The Unknown Screenwriter

And of course, my star commenter Sulu at the Helm. Thanks, dude. You’re sick and you should get some help.
Apologies to anyone left out – let me know and I’ll rectify.
Okay, this has already gone on too long. Thanks to you, readers. Comment some more and we’ll chat.
Go see more movies in the theaters!

I’m coming up on the one year mark myself, and I am totally going to spend the better part of a week ruminating…
Happy birthday, blog!

Thanks for the good wishes, everybody – I’m a big fan of all of your work, and not just in the Hollywood air-kissing way.

Congratulations. I’m still three month’s shy of my blogsday myself — wonder if I’ll even notice.
And, hyey, air-kissing isn’t bad compared to it’s macho equivalent, the Carson Daly hug. That thing gives me the willies.

Congrats! It seems like just yesterday you were a young pup right out of college working in the Des Moines market, doing twice weekly movie reviews and entertainment pieces for WIOW. And who could forget your “Burbanked and Friends” morning show (1989-1992)in Sacramento. Less memorable was your foray into reality television–you know, “MTV’s Road Rage II: Puck is a complete freaking media whore/loser”). Thanks to your always great blog, we’ll forgive that. Keep up the good work in 07.

…boy, do I miss that morning show. I wonder whatever happened to the puppet…?

From Wikipedia:
Socko the movie puppet was the toast of the California morning show set during the three-season run of “Burbank and Friends” where he served sometimes as foil and othertimes as the comedy partner to weatherman Skip Skippington. When production of the show ceased in the early 90’s, Socko tried his hand both in the music business and feature films. In 1993, he released “Socko Sings the Blues”, covering blues standards such as “Manchild in the Promiseland” along with, inexplicably, acoustic renditions of songs made popular by hairbands “Slaughter” and “Helloween”. In 1994, he co-starred with Richard Greco in “City of Hells Angels”, a thriller set, inexplicably, in 1950’s Brooklyn. Both the record and film failed miserably. Socko then turned to politics running first as a California state assembleyman then a state representatives. Both times he lost in a landslide. Critics questioned his decision to run on a decidedly anti-immigrant, anti-Hispanic, anti-Jew plank in a district populated largely by Hispanics and Jewish retirees. Thoroughly frustrated, Socko relocated to rural Oregon where he currently runs an organic beet farm. For years, he avoided any contact with the press. However, in 2005 he told a reporter for “Parade” magazine he was interested in restarting his entertainment career and was open to any number of projects. Unconfirmed rumors have him playing the villian in “Rush Hour 3″ and supplying a voice for a third “Garfield” installment.
