Spider-Man will be web-swinging onto your letters in 2007.

soon to appear on an envelope near youAccording to FoxNews.com, the U.S. Postal Service has plans in 2007 to release a number of new U.S. Stamps including Jimmy Stewart, a Hershey Kiss, Ella Fitzgerald…and your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Spidey is part of a planned series of Marvel superhero stamps that could also include the Hulk, the Thing, Wolverine and more.

We’re just happy to see Puny Parker get some government-sanctioned lovin’, especially in the year that will see him once again returning to our beloved silver screen. Overall, it’s a nice shot in the arm for the Marvel brand as well as the individual icons. Being immortalized on U.S. Stamps, after all, is a tribute usually granted to those pieces of Americana and pop culture that have had important and lasting impacts in the history of our art, media and pop literature.

Lasting impact. Cultural history. Enduring iconic status. Do you suppose The Transformers can ever hope for such lofty goals? Or is that entire concept a little too cheesy?
