once seen grappling outside the Skybar It may be hard for some of you youngsters to believe, but long ago there was no Paris vs. Lindsay; no Angelina vs. Jennifer; no Paris vs. Nicole; no Paris vs. Good Taste. Those were heady, wild times, but they lacked the pop culturey sting of a solidly disrespectful inter-celebrity slapping.

So it’s with no small amount of glee that we share with you a recent addition to the “Ask Barry” page of Brady Bunch icon Barry Williams’ website:

WHOA, SNAP! Before now, we never put much thought into the potential turf wars between Greg Brady and Freddie Jones - their oeuvres are so varied, so dynamically juxtaposed - but obviously there’s some bad blood there. Hopefully we’ll see a response from the Jones camp later today in which Freddie points out that, despite the rampant lifestyle philosophies that informed his fans’ generation, Freddie was never implicated in 1) trying to get it on with his onscreen mother or 2) struggling through a scene while baked out of his mind.

12.13.2008It should be expected that Nicolas Cage will bring some kind of quirk, oddball accent, or zany physical attribute to each movie character that he plays. And now that I’ve seen the trailer for his upcoming supernatural thriller Knowing, I feel pretty sure that this movie’s whimsical peculiarity is found in the following screengrab, because clearly Cage has decided to become action/thriller cinema’s first Polish great-grandma. (2)

12.11.2008Well, that’s too bad. Back a year or so ago when I heard that they’d be making a movie out of Judi and Ron Barrett’s terrific kids’ book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, I hoped maybe it’d be made live-action. Handled well, the idea of seeing an actual town where it rained hotdogs and baked beans in an open-roof restaurant, as well as the bit where sanitation trucks clean up all the leftover rain/snow/food and feed it to the pets would be, I thought, a bundle of CG-imbued cinema fun. According to Film School Rejects, however, this great book - one of my boys’ favorites - is simply being made into yet another animated feature destined to be lost in a sea of blah-ocrity. (1)
