Here’s a whole blogosphere of reasons why Miami Vice is the movie to see.

are we so cool? yes. yes we are.I’ve been cautiously, timidly excited about seeing Miami Vice, even though I’d go see the opening night of a high school Brigadoon production if Michael Mann were directing it. I was always sold on the idea of a new Mann crime drama; I just wasn’t sure that the Miami Vice title wasn’t weighed down by the historical baggage of preconceived notions.

But…just a second…yep, the hesitation’s all gone now.

There’s a handful of reasons for this. The Vice trailer is very cool. The fact that Jeff Wells likes it certainly helps (although I haven’t read his review because of his casual [accidental?] movie-spoiling proclivities). And did I mention that Michael Mann directed it?

But today I’m geared up for MV because of the excellent blog-buzz that Chris at Movie Marketing Madness kicked off when he scored a conversation from a Universal rep who contacted him to chat about the movie. And it spread from there.

This is cool on many levels. After the ridiculousness of the Paramount CampeaGate, it’s absolutely gratifying to see Universal taking the marketing power of blogs more seriously, and Chris’ MMM is one hell of a great outlet with which to do so.

And of course I’m not the first guy to observe this. Mack Collier’s The Viral Community blog has not only picked up this thread run with it – he’s sprinting out to the store, jogging around the track, racing down the homestretch and zipping across the finish line. And the dude barely breaks a sweat.

Congrats all around to my blogging brethren. I may not be in the league of their community, but perhaps I could be considered their intriguing, oddball Cousin Sal who lives in a trailer off the next highway exit.

And even more congrats to Universal who seem to be getting it right. Miami Vice opens a week from today.
