Some good wishes for Roger Ebert’s upcoming surgery.

the hole's never been filled Film critic Roger Ebert’s going under the knife again, undergoing cancer surgery on his salivary gland on June 16th. Ebert had surgery to remove a malignant tumor on his thyroid gland in 2002 and two surgeries on his salivary gland in 2003. We’re big fans of Ebert’s and wish him all the best for a speedy recovery, offering just a small tidbit of advice:

If, while you’re under anesthesia, you see Gene Siskel giving you a big smile and the “thumbs-up”, DON’T FOLLOW HIM INTO THE LIGHT.

11.20.2008Dedicated screenwriting 101 here: From an interview with Harrison Ford on the MTV Movies Blog in which the inevitability of another Indiana Jones movie is mentioned:
MTV: Is the ball in George’s court at this point? Ford: It is. That’s the process. With some general input he goes off and searches for the MacGuffin and then stumbles into a story. And at some point we have a chance to take a look at and give some input.
Now granted this is Ford’s opinion of Lucas’ “creative process”, yet still: when one of the three principals of the Indiana Jones legacy classifies the story creation process as a haphazard, one-man effort that only superficially seeks outside input, it’s hard not to feel frustrated. Not surprised, just frustrated. Dear Mr. Spielberg: please put your foot down and either demand a coherent story or walk away. Just do us all a favor, could you? Maybe? (found via FilmDrunk)

11.19.2008Okay, I need your help here. Sonny, Michael Corleone and Tom Hagen keep bringing up the fact that they want to go see Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.How do I get out of this? I love going to the movies with my boys, opening up their minds to the great pleasures of cinema and all that, but this is a hard one.
