And just like that, Casino Royale got more interesting.

Daniel Craig has tolerated enough fan speculation and whining about his suitability as Bond to make even George Lazenby giggle with feelings of superiority. In the early days of Burbanked, in fact, we even added a bit of fuel to the anti-Craig fire - although our influence on such things is about as threatening as a blind, clawless, elderly housecat.
So imagine our surprise and glee when we happened across this French teaser trailer for Casino Royale (”leaked”, as they say, and found via digg) and, well, thought it was pretty damn good indeed.
Yes, it is in French so we’re unable to evaluate any dialog, line delivery or plot spoilers. Bond could be asking M for butter on his croissant for all we know. But at precisely the 30-second mark, dialog doesn’t much matter anymore as the classic Bond score swells to bursting, accompanied by a rapid-fire montage of guns, women and mayhem.
And it works. Craig cuts a pretty impressive figure here - dangerous and menacing with no hint whatsoever of quips, jokes or referential humor. We might have done without the silly zoom at the end, but overall this is a very decent look at what we might expect come November.
Should we judge a whole film based on its teaser? Of course not - but we do, and Hollywood knows it. Is it possible that this could still go horribly, colossally wrong? Sure it could.
But maybe for now, maybe just for a while…we’ll believe in Bond again.
