How do you solve a problem like Indiana Jones?

it's not the years, honey, it's the mileageHey, we here at Burbanked are certainly not averse to occasionally giving away free movie ideas, but now Jeffrey Wells has gone a bit too far in suggesting a key narrative “fix” for the team of screenwriting monkeys currently stuck developing Indiana Jones IV.

At issue, of course, is just how the heck filmmakers are supposed to take the soon-to-be-receiving-AARP-benefits Harrison Ford and throw him into his signature character’s brand of danger and bodily harm. From the “it’s just crazy enough to work” file, here’s the gist of Wells’ suggestion:

“…cast a younger guy alongside Ford, fine…but the running joke is that old, bent-over Indy is stronger, tougher, braver and in better shape than the much-younger guy. In short, ignore the age issue…”

Hear that, Hollywood screenwriters? The best solution is usually the simplest one.

But we’d go even farther. Wells suggests that the filmmakers might need to use CG to achieve the action sequences.

Forget it! Part of the joy of the Indiana Jones movies is their reliance on old-school, real-life, practical effects, so get Ford to the gym right now and find him the best stuntman on earth. Do whatever it takes. You’ve made us wait 17 years for this (closer to 20 by the time the movie’s released) – so take a step back and listen to some outside advice before you betray a beloved chunk of cinematic history.

And yes, we’re talking to you, Mr. Lucas…
