Hey, ma, we got us a little baby blog!

If hype is the fuel of Hollywood, Burbanked is the tasty chilidog that you’re ashamed to enjoy right after filling up the tank. Show business - and the journalists, Web sites and bloggers that cover it - is brimming with hype, with flash and spin and even hoopla. Stars on the red carpet! Boffo box office blockbusters! Naughty celebrity indiscretions! But how many of us can say that we’ve come even close to being ushered inside the velvet rope of showbiz splendor?
If you exclude the 63% of the U.S. population who will find themselves “discovered” by reality television, most of us view the comings and goings of Hollywood from the outside. We’re reading the tabloids, surfing the Web, and TiVo-ing Entertainment Tonight so that we can frame-by-frame a preview of a trailer for a movie that won’t be out until next Christmas.
Welcome, friends. Consider Burbanked your home away from hype. A view of Hollywood - with occasional daytrips elsewhere - without the view.

because clearly Cage has decided to become action/thriller cinema’s first Polish great-grandma. (
Well, that’s too bad. Back a year or so ago when I heard that they’d be making a movie out of Judi and Ron Barrett’s terrific kids’ book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, I hoped maybe it’d be made live-action. Handled well, the idea of seeing an actual town where it rained hotdogs and baked beans in an open-roof restaurant, as well as the bit where sanitation trucks clean up all the leftover rain/snow/food and feed it to the pets would be, I thought, a bundle of CG-imbued cinema fun.
